4am Vinyl Volume 2 : Nocturnal Blooms

This edition feels like a warm desert night in full bloom — alive, electric, and full of wonder. It features music from two incredible Utah acts: The Plastic Cherries and Mowth.

The Plastic Cherries have recently recorded some brand-new songs, and I’m beyond thrilled that they’ve chosen to share them with us for this release. I’ve also had the joy of knowing Jordan and Rachel from Mowth for a few years now, and every time I see them perform, I’m reminded of how powerful and alive music can make you feel.

To bring this volume to life visually, we collaborated with the incredibly talented Chrystal Dawn. When I invited her to be part of this project, she offered to create original pieces inspired by the music itself. The results are stunning — she captured the essence of both bands with such depth and emotion that I’m still in awe.

I hope this record helps you feel the heartbeat of Utah’s creative soul — and maybe even inspires you to keep exploring. Welcome to Nocturnal Blooms — and welcome to 4am Vinyl.

Meet the Artists

Chrystal Dawn

From Stockton, California but now residing in Salt Lake City, Utah, Chrystal Dawn is a professional traditional artist whose work explores the connection between ourselves and the natural world, Chrystal’s work reflects a deep reverence for wildlife and the magic of nature. Blending realism with whimsical and enchanted elements, her pieces often feature animals in nontraditional settings, evoking a sense of wonder and storytelling using self taught methods in oil, acrylic, gouache and ink.

Chrystal’s work invites viewers to reflect on the interconnectedness of life and the hidden, familiar magic within everyday moments. Through her art, Chrystal seeks to capture the quiet mystery and enchantment found in the stillness of natural spaces. She has exhibited in galleries in America, the United Kingdom and Europe, and has been featured in several publications, and travels all over the country for fine art fairs. When she isn’t traveling for shows or working on a new piece, she instructs painting and block printing classes to help others find their love of art.

Mowth

Salt Lake City’s Mowth is a band to be reckoned with. The female-fronted alt punk outfit from Salt Lake City blends catchy pop hooks with empowered riot grrrl tenacity. Founded in 2019 by Singer Rachel Clark and Guitarist/Producer Jordan Clark, the band was soon joined by Callie Crofts on bass and Zac Bryant on drums. This rag-tag group of real-life besties brings infectious energy and undeniable enthusiasm to the stage that packs a powerful and memorable punch.

The Plastic Cherries

The Plastic Cherries are an Utah-based indie band blending retro charm with modern melancholy, crafting lush, lo-fi pop songs that shimmer with nostalgia. With dreamy guitar lines, vintage synths, and emotionally vivid songwriting, the band conjures a sound that’s as cinematic as it is intimate—like the soundtrack to a lost summer.

Formed in the quiet corners of the Wasatch Front, The Plastic Cherries pull inspiration from '70s AM radio, garage psych, and bittersweet bedroom pop. Their music feels worn-in and warm, but never static—equal parts romantic escapism and grounded storytelling.

At their core, The Plastic Cherries are about capturing moments that slip between memory and fantasy, delivering songs that are tender, hazy, and unmistakably heartfelt. As part of Utah’s growing DIY music scene, they’ve become known for their distinct aesthetic and emotionally resonant soundscapes that linger long after the last note.
